Glass Lewis Opens Comment Period on Multiple Research Perspectives
Firm Invites Key Institutional Investor and Corporate Stakeholder Groups to Validate that the Perspectives Align with Varied Stewardship Interests
Toronto, Amsterdam, September 15, 2026 — Glass Lewis, a leading provider of corporate governance data and insights to institutional investors and companies, has opened a comment period on the four research perspectives that will underpin its research model starting in September 2027.
The firm announced its shift from a single "house view" to a multi-perspective research model in October 2025 in response to the growing divergence in how investors approach stewardship across markets, and technological advances, such as AI, that enable greater customization of proxy voting policies. The shift to multiple perspectives represents a broader transformation underway at Glass Lewis, which also includes helping all clients move to custom voting policies.
With a broader set of options, Glass Lewis aims to deliver a more strategic, client-driven experience, enabling institutional investors to better align their engagement efforts and vote decisions with their own stewardship philosophy and priorities. Under the new model, Glass Lewis clients can select research that provides in-depth analysis and policy outcomes across one or more of these perspectives:
- Business Fundamentals: Takes a flexible view of governance standards when boards and management teams have demonstrated a strong record of generating shareholder returns.
- Foundational Governance: Treats core governance standards as essential to safeguard long-term shareholder value.
- Global Stewardship: Integrates core governance standards with rigorous oversight of financially material sustainability risks to protect long-term shareholder value.
- Sustainability Focused: Pairs core governance standards with rigorous oversight of sustainability risks that are or could become financially material over extended time horizons and across portfolios. Recognizes that asset owners have a fiduciary interest in the stability and integrity of the markets in which they invest.
“Our role as a service provider is to serve all our clients across a spectrum of needs and priorities,” said Hendrik Garz, senior vice president of Methodology at Glass Lewis. “This comment period offers our clients as well as key market stakeholders the opportunity to validate and refine the perspectives, so that they collectively reflect the range of ways investors approach stewardship globally.”
As part of the comment period, Glass Lewis is making available on its website a consultation paper and survey questionnaire. The firm is also providing a companion paper that presents a comparison of the perspectives at the proposal category level. All survey responses may be submitted anonymously, and no individual or organization will be identified in the published findings. After the comment period closes on October 16, Glass Lewis will share the results on its website and, shortly thereafter, make available the market-specific guidelines across the four perspectives.
To give stakeholders ample time to understand and evaluate the new perspectives, Glass Lewis will continue to offer its Benchmark Voting Policy Guidelines and Proxy Paper research reports for the 2027 Proxy Season. Changes to those guidelines will be limited to significant regulatory and corporate governance developments from 2026. The firm will begin to publish those guidelines for major markets in early October 2026.
The consultation paper, survey, and comparison paper are available here.
