Global Governance Firm Further Expands in Asia-Pacific

TOKYO (22 January 2020) – Glass Lewis, the leading independent provider of global corporate governance services, today announced the opening of a new, full-service office in Tokyo, Japan. The office will house research, client service and custom policy team members. It is Glass Lewis’ fourth new location since 2015 and represents a significant investment in Japan and the broader Asia-Pacific region.

“We are very excited to establish an office in Tokyo so we can best support our ever-expanding coverage universe of Asian public companies and our growing number of local investor clients,” said John Wieck, COO of Glass Lewis. “Opening an office in Tokyo is the next step in the continued expansion of our global network.”

In conjunction with the opening of the new office, Glass Lewis promoted Ms. Naoko Ueno into the role of Vice President, Research and Engagement. Ms. Ueno will be responsible for establishing the office in Tokyo and will continue to oversee the research teams responsible for covering Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Ms. Ueno originally joined the Asian Research team in 2010 and has led the team for the past 6 years, a period of massive expansion of Asian company holdings among clients and dramatic evolution of governance practices across Asia. She has personally overseen the Japanese research and engagement operations, including the publishing of more than 2,700 reports in 2019 and direct dialogue with hundreds of companies and investors.

“The Japanese market has long been critical to Glass Lewis’ research coverage, and the growth in our local client base in recent years has been a clear signal that our pragmatic, engaged approach has resonated with Japanese investors,” said Ms. Ueno. “I am proud to lead this effort at a time of such exciting changes in the way this market is advancing corporate governance and investment stewardship.”
