Glass Lewis has published its first annual engagement report for clients subscribing to our new Active Ownership Engagement Solution.

The Engagement Solution was launched to support our clients’ stewardship efforts and regulatory reporting requirements. This solution builds on our existing extensive global engagement program that has been developed over the course of the past seven years.

In 2021 Glass Lewis engaged with over 1,000 companies in 31 countries – including 395 meetings since the launch of the Engagement Solution on October 1, 2021.

We were guided in our efforts by the numerous conversations we had with our clients, where we identified four clear and consistent expectations:

  • a global reach, with a local presence;
  • an experienced multi-disciplinary governance team undertaking the engagement work;
  • a focus on evolving material ESG themes; and,
  • identifying measurable progress at companies.

To fulfil these expectations, we created a proprietary Stage of Progression KPI system to classify companies progress against a set of predefined key ESG issues that we discussed in our engagements. We are pleased to report that we have identified meaningful engagement momentum – 87% of the ESG issues we identified, management either acted or understood our perspectives and was willing to evolve their corporate governance practices.

In the annual engagement report, subscribers will find regional and topical breakdowns of our engagement data, along with company-specific case studies and thematic spotlights, providing granular insights on ESG topics ranging from risk management and oversight, board diversity, climate risk reporting, and remuneration practices, among others.
